WHY IS TLC LOCALLY REGISTERED?
As in any modern nation Ethiopia has agencies of the government that are tasked with oversight of non-governmental agencies (non-profits) and particularly organizations that work with children. NGOs must submit to local laws and regulations, and their financial records are audited. TLC is an independent locally registered NGO (non-profit) that is solely administrated by locals. TLC has been recognized by local and national government as a model NGO.
IOI does not have an office or staff in Ethiopia. Rather IOI partners with TLC and other locally registered organizations by providing grants for their programs. Our sponsorship programs are designed to facilitate a safe, transparent and responsible relationship between you and the child that you sponsor.
CAN I COMMUNICATE WITH MY CHILD?
As a means of encouragement and help to both the children and their sponsors, we strongly encourage sponsors to build relationships with their children through correspondence. All correspondence and gifts are funneled through the Indigenous Outreach office to ensure that the items arrive safely and to provide translation if necessary. Accountability and integrity are hallmarks of the ministry of TLC. Over the years we have striven to maintain our donors' privacy. Communication with your child through our office protects your privacy and security.
Letters are hand-delivered by staff and volunteers.
Be sure to mark all correspondence with your child’s name and TLC number.
Please mail all correspondence to:

CAN I SEND GIFTS TO MY CHILD?
If sponsors would like to give gifts to their child, we encourage you to send extra funds for those items which may be most helpful to the child and their family. Sponsors will receive information once a year concerning Christmas giving opportunities and on rare occasions may hear from TLC Stateside Director concerning an acute and present need that is specific to your child and his family.
If you would like to give additional funds throughout the year, please contact Anna Worley, TLC stateside director, at annaworley@ioiusa.org or 662-212-3090.
IS THERE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR FUNDS?
The TLC program is registered with the government of Ethiopia as a non-profit organization. They are required by law to be audited annually and expenses must be in line with strict government regulations. A copy of this audit is always available to anyone who requests it. We also produce an annual reportStateside to explain in detail how the money was spent.
WHAT IF MY CHILD DROPS OUT OF THE PROGRAM?
From time to time, a child leaves the TLC project. If your child leaves the program, we will inform you as soon as possible. We are usually able to send an explanation of why the child was withdrawn. At that time, we will assign you another child who is in need of a sponsor.
WHAT IF I CAN NO LONGER SUPPORT MY CHILD?
We understand that sometimes unexpected financial situations make it difficult for you to continue sponsoring your child. If this happens, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can work to find your child a new sponsor. We require a minimum of 2 weeks’ notice to stop autodraft from your bank account.
HOW DO I FIND OUT MORE INFORMATION ABOUT MY CHILD?
We strive to send at least 2 updates per year. You will also receive emails and newsletters throughout the year updating you on all that is happening at TLC. Occasionally, you may also receive word of specific needs your child and his or her family might have. You may contact the TLC stateside director at any time for more information about your child.
